Educators, THIS LAND IS...
Ahmanson Classroom, California Garden
Explore native plants and learn how plant identification can support environmental literacy and stewardship.
What if your students could meet a plant instead of just memorizing its name? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to bring California native plant learning to life through sensory exploration, close looking, and hands-on activities. Using our free, printable native plant cards, you’ll learn how to guide students in a “Meet a Plant” experience with key California species. You’ll explore cross-disciplinary connections to art, science, and history activities, and take the cards outdoors to identify and interact with native plants in the garden. You’ll leave with accessible, standards-aligned tools to deepen students’ environmental literacy and foster stewardship.
Participants will learn how to activate the Tool Cards in our free, printable native plant cards. Photo by Victoria Gonzalez. | The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens.
