Basket Vase
1 of 3
Dresser was the first British designer to travel extensively in Japan in the second half of the 19th century. This rare basket-style vase is a gorgeous example of the Anglo-Japanese style the artist developed after his return to Britain. The deep green and yellow surface is reminiscent of glazes used in Chinese and Japanese pottery. The pouch-like, curving shape tapering to a thin handle is inspired by Japanese bronze vessels and the woven bamboo moon baskets used for ikebana flower arranging.
