De Morgan was a highly innovative ceramic designer who was committed to bringing beauty into ordinary spaces. Inspired by Middle Eastern designs and colors typically used on ancient Syrian and Turkish pottery, De Morgan designed this vase with a perfectly balanced composition of stylized leaves and flowers in a delicate palette. For De Morgan, symmetry was a synonym for beauty in art. His ceramic designs show elaborate patterns that have a clear structure and are aesthetically pleasing, as seen in this vase.
