One of the most highly-regarded cabinetmakers of the 18th century, Cressent was also an accomplished sculptor. The sculpted corner mounts – called espagnolettes – depict female figures. Their turned heads and asymmetrical hairstyles suggest movement and bring a sense of vitality to this large library table.
