This ovoid shaped Blue Hawthorne, or "famille noire," ginger jar is made of clear white, hard paste porcelain and shows a symbolical decoration in brilliant cobalt blue with branches of the wild prunus tree against a ground of reticulated blue. Blossoms spread downward from the rim of the neck and upward from the base. The rim of the neck is finished by a narrow dentated border.
