The plan includes a starboard longitudinal cutaway of the vessel showing decks and holds, along with capacity; there are also drawings of parts of the Main, Boat, and Steerage decks, showing passenger accommodations and public spaces such as the First Class dining cabin. Hand drawn on vellum. "Pacific Mail S.S.Company's S.S. Indiana"--title at the top of the drawing. No scale given. "Nov. 11, 1907. 113-3203"--in ink, in ms., lower right corner. "113-3203"--stamped number, in brown ink, lower right corner. Plan was found rolled in the drawer; not seeking to fold it, the plan was re-rolled. The Indiana, built in 1872 for the American Line by Cramps, Philadelphia, was purchased in the fiscal year ending 30 April 1908 by Pacific Mail Steamship Company; the drawing may have been part of a survey done following the purchase of the vessel; the Indiana was lost on 3 April 1909 after wrecking on Tosco Point, near Magdalena Bay, Baja California. Focus of item: Indiana.
