The beach an bathhouse at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island. There are bathers on the shore and in the water, as well as normally attired people who are watching from the pier attached to the bath house. Two men are standing on a railing at the end of the pier preparing to dive, while a third is mid-dive.

A panoramic view of the harbor at Avalon, on Santa Catalina Island. The photograph was taken from somewhere along the northwestern shore of the bay, with the city of Avalon on the far right. There is a boat with a striped canopy and seven or eight people on it being rowed across the center of the image. There are also a few people standing or sitting on the shore. There are several unoccupied small boats on the water, as well as a three mast sailing ship, and few sailboats with their sails up. Writing in white at the bottom reads "Avalon Bay, Catalina. ; 1904."
