    Visual Materials

    The photographic view captured a white Victorian farmhouse with outbuildings, an orchard, and windmill. The image also shows various homesteads in the distance. The annotations on the verso note photograph numbers, 180 and 12. This photograph may have been transferred by the mss dept. from the Grahame Hardy collection [mssHM 72670-72753].

    The collection of mounted albumen California Mission views include seventy various interior and exterior images of the Royal Presidio Chapel of San Carlos de Barromeo de Monterey, Mission Santa Barbara, Mission San Carlos de Barromeo de Carmelo, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, San Fernando Rey de España, San Gabriel Arcángel, Mission San Juan Bautista, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission San Luis Rey, Mission San Miguel Arcángel, Mission San Antonio Padua, and the Mission San Antonio de Pala. The majority of the collection's annotations note "Hardy, 1945" which may refer to the Grahame Hardy collection acquired in 1945. Several images credit Waite as the photographer.

    Collection of miscellaneous Northern California photographs and portraits

    Visual Materials

    The collection of images include a botanical specimen photograph card (sarcodes sanguniea torrey or snow plant of the Sierra), a U.S. Army encampment scene (Sacramento), portraits, and buildings. Among the photographs are roof tops (San Jose), the Santa Barbara Mission capturing priests in the corridor, Auburn Poultry Producer (store facade), William Chapman Ralston (1826-1875) San Francisco Banker, Miss Adams (Mormon actress), Mary Anderson's farm (Oakland), and a postcard photograph of First Bank in Northern California at Coloma. The Auburn Poultry photograph is noted as being a gift of Collis Halladay (1893) and a majority of the photographs cite "Hardy, 1945" which may refer to the original Grahame Hardy collection acquired in 1945.

    Miscellaenous photographs in Oregon and California

    Visual Materials

    Consists of five mounted photographs. Two are of Rogue River Falls in Oregon and one is of Mill Creek Falls in California, which were possibly taken for use for a hydro-electric project. There is also one photograph of a burnt out and unscrapped trolly car of an unidentified company in an unidentified location, and one portrait of Mrs. Mary Ramsey Lemons Wood, an Oregon pioneer. Her portrait is accompanied by a biography and family history on the verso.

    Photographs related to mining in California

    Consists of eight photographs. Seven are taken by Rockwell Hereford while he was employed at Consolidated Western Steel Corporation. Captions are on the verso, and subjects include the Bryne (O'Bryne) covered bridge near Copperopolis in Calaveras County, the telephone line believed to be the oldest long distance telephone line in the world (as of June 1948), located between French Corral and North San Juan. Photographs taken in Nevada County include the machine shop where Pelton invented his water wheel, the Malakoff mine, an old hose cart in North San Juan with rawhide riveted nozzles and laced canvas, and Relief Hill mine. One photograph of an unidentified church choir photographed y Huddleston Photo Company, Los Angeles, is also included in this collection.
