Description: Consists of nine photographs. photPF 370 contains two cuttings from the Pasadena Star News depicting the intersection of Marengo and Colorado streets, in 1885(?) and 1925(?). These images are also accompanied by annotations and a short handwritten account of land pricing at this intersection in the 1880s. Other subjects include the former Villa Street Reservoir, various floats from the 1900(?) Rose Parade, a chariot race in Tournament Park, and a photo fo an unidentified man by the falls in Eaton Canyon.

Chiefly card photographs of views, buildings, and sights in the Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California in the late 19th century. Consists of images of various Pasadena area landscapes, buildings including commercial storefronts, churches, and residences. Among the buildings depicted are the Central School House (photPF 527), the Grand Pasadena Opera House (photPF 530), the Congregational Church (photPF 519), the first Methodist Church building (photPF 505), the first Presbyterian Church, the storefront of the Jarvis's photography gallery (photPF 540) in Pasadena, and the buildings of the Sierra Madre Vintage Co. winery in Lamanda Park, including one showing a locomotive and passenger cars of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Railroad (photPF 539 and 549); residences include those of William J. Barkus (photPF 510), Albert Brigden (photPF 537) and Moritz Rosenbaum (photPF 514) in Pasadena, J.R. Dobbins in San Gabriel (photPF 509), and General George Stoneman on his Los Robles estate (photPF 504) and B.D. Wilson on his Lake Vineyard Estate (photPF 507-508), both in what is now San Marino. Individuals include George W. Peck (photPF 529) General George Stoneman (photPF 504), B.D. Wilson and James De Barth Shorb (photPF 507), all with their families. Additionally, there are photographs of a welcome arch in honor of the visit of United States President Benjamin Harrison in 1891 (photPF 544), two flower displays from the first flower show in the Wooster Block (photPF 523 and 542), fruit drying (photPF 524), a Pasadena Ostrich Farm (photPF 528), a tennis match (photPF 555), and a photograph of the Hotel Redondo, railroad train, and beach in Redondo Beach, California (photPF 502). There are also two photographs of architectural drawings of a planned YMCA building (photPF 521) and the Pasadena Presbyterian Church (photPF 533). Identified photographers include Elias A. Bonine (photPF 522), E.S. Frost & Son (photPF 539, 547, 551-552), William Henry Hill (photPF 502), Jarvis' Gallery (photPF 512ac-c-514, 519-521, 523-531, 533, 538, 550), C. Consists of 33 copy prints with some duplicates. The back of each photograph has a title and a number to a corresponding lantern slide. photPF 190-193 are photographs of prospecting in California, depicting Yreka, Chinese prospectors, and a prospecting party, and appear to be copies of photographs by Eadweard Muybridge. photPF 194-196 photos are views of Ellwood Cooper's Ranch in Santa Barbara County. photPF 197-199 depict scenes of workers and lodgings in Yosemite Valley as well as the studio of artist Albert Bierstadt. photPF 200 depicts the construction of the Bear River Crossing C.P.R.R. photPF 201 depicts trout fishing in Sonoma County. photPF 202-209 focuses on early Los Angeles County, with snapshots of ranches, orchards, vineyards, Los Angeles High School, and the homes of Maria Sepulveda, F. D. Bacon, and F. P. F. Temple. photPF 210-217 depict various locations in early San Francisco, including Telegraph Hill, Alcatraz Island, Goat Island, Woodward's Gardens, and the Mercantile Library. photPF 218-219 feature the Keystone quartz mill and the first quartz mill in Amador City.

Card photographs of Pasadena, California, consisting of a variety of views of town streets, residence and building exteriors, horse-drawn vehicles, and parades. Most of the photographers were taken by photographer William Henry Hill, though there is one by M.B. Howard (photPF 20046) and two by C. J. Crandall (photPF 20047 and 20048).

Miscellaenous photographs in Oregon and California

Visual Materials

Consists of eleven photographs, includuing copy prints, photoprints, and mounted photographs. Most have inscriptions on the verso. photPF 2431-2434 depicted construction and staff at Fort Dalles, Oregon. photPF 2435 is a portrait of Judge George Henry Williams, the United States Attorney General under President Ulysses S. Grant and third chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. photPF 2436 is a photogrpah of a minature portrait of Presley Neville O'Bannon of the United States Marine Corps, reknown for his participation in the First Barbary War and the Battle of Derna, Libya. photPF 2437 is a cabinet card of the Shorb family home which formerly sat the grounds of the Huntington estate in San Marino; notes on the verso indicate when the structure was built and remodeled. A second photograph labeled photPF 2437 is of Guajome Ranch (Coutt's Ranch) in San Diego County. photPF 2438 is a copy print of the Moneyan Institute of San Gabriel, designed by William Money who was widely regarded as Los Angeles' first cult leader. photPF 2439 is a portrait of Jules Simoneau, a close friend of Robert Louis Stevenson. photPF 2440 is a photograph of the first casting of the "Mildred and William Dean Howells" bronze relief which currently sits in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. (NPG.65.65). An inscription in Mildred's hand is written on the verso, and it is accompanied by a note from Mildred addressed to Mr. Schad.
