- A portrait photograph of Winston Churchill taken by Armenian Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh in Ottawa, Canada on December 30, 1941. The image is a well-known half-length portrait of Churchill facing the camera, with his hand on his hip. The print is signed by Karsh on the front below the image, and the back is stamped "Karsh, Ottawa" with "R.L." written in pencil. According to the Karsh Estate, R.L. stands for Roaring Lion, which is the title this portrait came to be known by after Churchill told Karsh that Karsh could "make a roaring lion stand still to be photographed." The Estate also provided the date of the sitting.
