A collection of 56 black and white snapshot photographs mounted on pages of a photograph album. The photographs depict people, activities, and scenery on the islands of Kaua'i and O'ahu, Hawai'i in approximately 1910. The photographs include Native Hawaiians and a thatched building, Chinese and Japanese laborers, and agriculture such as rice fields, sugarcane, and a pineapple plantation. Nearly all of the photographs are labeled with handwritten captions. One caption refers to the visitors camping in the mountains of Kaua'i at "Mr. Gay's" during Halley's Comet. Images of Honolulu include Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, and Waikiki. There are also group photographs of travelers onboard the SS Mongolia and SS Wilhelmina traveling from "San Francisco to Honolulu." One album page has two photographs of the "Grizzly Giant" tree in Yosemite Valley, California.

Dorothy O'Dell Philippines photograph album

This album contains photographs compiled by Dorothy O'Dell, who resided in the Cavite province of the Philippines during her husband's service in the U.S. Navy. The images depict the couple's travel in England, India, Jerusalem, Panama, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, capturing specific sites such as Mount Ebal, the "Gateway to Ancient Shechem," Sebastia (Palestine), the "Ancient Castle Thunton" (Taunton Castle, England), Windsor Castle (England), Edinburgh Castle (Scotland), Heidelberg Castle (Germany), the "Hindu Temple" (Meenakshi Amman Temple) and the "Lake Temple" (Vandiyur Mariamman Temple) in Madurai, India. The photographs also document their residence in O'ahu, Hawai'i and Dorothy's evacuation from the Philippines and return to the United States via the S.S. Washington to San Francisco, California. However, many of the images capture Philippine landmarks in Manila, some of which were later damaged or destroyed by the Japanese in World War II. These landmarks include the Jai Alai Building, Puerta de Parián, and Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje cathedral in Antipolo. There are also photographs of the Chinese Yu Tan and Paco cemeteries in Manila, the Taal Volcano, images of Igorot dancers in ceremonial dress performing for Navy personnel, an Igorot person in traditional clothing in Northern Luzon, Filipino funeral processions, street scenes capturing Filipino citizens in their daily activities, livestock, and the O'Dell home on "Radio Road" or Salamanca Drive.The depictions of daily life in pre-war Philippines in and around the naval base are described through written notes by Dorothy on the album pages. Two cabinet card portraits produced by the B.D. Garduno Studio are also included in the album along with photographs of American naval ships and military personnel. The leather album cover is embossed with two Chinese dragons with an emblazoned sphere between them and a Chinese Junk ship below. A few of the album pages appear to have missing photographs.

The cover of the album has a small photograph of a mission bell and an embossed title: "Twenty-four Beautiful Views of the California Missions." It also has paper covers, tied with a cord binding. The back cover is embossed "Published by Pacific Novelty Company, San Francisco" and "Made in Germany." All of the images are photographs, except for the following, which are reproductions of illustrations or paintings: Santa Clara Mission; San Francisco de Asís Mission, Mission Santa Cruz and Mission San Rafael Arcángel (asistencia). Asistencias and Catholic churches included are: San Antonio de Pala Asistencia, Church of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels (Plaza Church), and the Royal Presidio Chapel.

Photograph and scrapbook album of women's trip to Mexico

A travel album of photographs, ephemera and typescript narrative, documenting a car trip taken by four Texas women to Mexico and back in August and September 1938. Typed diary pages are pasted on several album pages detailing the people and places the women encountered and the experiences they had. The photographs include snapshots of residents, towns and villages, ancient temples, churches and convents, with some images of the four women who are only identified as Elizabeth, Juanita, "Sister," and M.S. They are seen with their guide, "Mr. Castillo," on a riverboat in Xochimilco in Mexico City, and also traveling by car in the mountains and countryside. Comments in the narrative discuss the use of travel conveniences such as Western Union and Wells Fargo, having to speak Spanish, the activities of indigenous peoples, and scenic wonders. The album is bound in wooden covers and has a carved illustration depicting a rural Mexican scene, most likely purchased on the trip. Also included in the album are photographic postcards, menus, brochures, and other ephemera collected from the trip.

A collection of various Civil War photographs that were bound into an album (now disbound), and were compiled by John P. Nicholson, Civil War veteran and collector. The albumen prints are approximately 10 x 12 1/2 inches, mounted on boards, with a few small, amateur photographs pasted on backs of some boards. The album begins with views of City Point by William Hathaway, including General U.S. Grant's headquarters and other barracks, and civilian men and women aboard a steamboat. Views in Richmond depict Libby Prison, building ruins, and Jefferson Davis' residence. Other subjects are: Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; soldiers and officers; an army camp at Scottstown, Alabama; an army bridge created from boats at Fredericksburg, Virginia (1862); U.S. Colored Troops standing in formation at Camp William Penn, Philadelphia (approximately 1863); Citizens' Volunteer Hospital; and a group of Black and white children, men, and women at "Scott House, opposite Fredericksburg." There are two photographs of illustrations by Civil War artist James E. Taylor depicting the Battle of Vermillion Bayou and Custer's charge through a Cheyenne village, Wyoming (1868). The album is disbound, and four photographs have been matted and housed in Box 2.
