    One envelope of instruction sheets on lettering. The majority of the 19 sheets appear to be components of The ABC of Lettering for Public Schools by Schuyler Bull, of Rochester, New York. This set is composed primarily of lettering sheets (of alphabets, numbers, and phrases) and some printed instruction text written and copyrighted by Schuyler Bull. Additional sheets are included also, but these appear to have come from other sources. Accompanying these sheets is an envelope addressed to Miss Mabel Spofford.

    Birds for School and Home: Folio 2, Summer Birds

    One portfolio of bird images entitled Birds for School and Home: Folio 2, Summer Birds, designed by Maud Adelaide Wright, manufactured by the Milton Bradley Company, copyright 1911. The set is comprised of 7 sheets of bird parts (bodies, wings and tails) for coloring and cutting out. These are designed to be colored, cut out and sewn or pasted together to form 3-dimensional objects to be hung, as in a mobile. The sheets of cutouts are preceded by a preliminary sheet which lists the types of birds and directions for coloring them. The types of birds included in this set are: wood thrush; phoebe; catbird; kingfisher; hummingbird; king bird; chewink; chimney swift; redstart and Maryland Yellowthroat. The sheets are housed within an illustrated paper envelope with directions for use. "Copyright 1911" is printed on each of the sheets and on the outer envelope.

    One boxed set of paper stencils entitled Animal Stencils: Easy and Simple Designs for First Steps in Drawing in the Home or School, manufactured by the Milton Bradley Company, Springfield, Massachusetts, ca. 1915. The set is comprised of 17 paper stencils, each with "Bradley" embossed in the lower right-hand corner. Also included are 12 sheets of brown and green paper for drawing/tracing the images; most of them have been used. Some of the animals represented by the stencils are: a fish, rabbit, cow, horse, turkey, a horse. There are two fish stencils. The set is housed within a paperboard box; the box is illustrated with a chromolithograph of a horse, a cow, and a dog in a field. "4306" is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the lid; "Milton Bradley Co., Springfield, Mass., U.S.A." is printed in the lower right-hand corner. Directions for use are printed on the underside of the lid. Some of the stencils have been used.

    One set of initial sheets entitled Decorative Initials, published by Davis Press, Worcester, Massachusetts, ca. 1920. This set is comprised of 13 sheets of decorative initials and appears to consist of sheets from two or three different sets. The sheets are unnumbered and unlabeled and are housed within a paper envelope entitled: Decorative Initials: Made by the Davis Press for Use in Schools. A descriptive paragraph states there are 92 initials within this group. "M. Spofford" is written in ms. on the verso of one of the leaves.

    One boxed set of chalk entitled American The 'Old Faithful' Crayons 1044, manufactured by the American Crayon Co., Sandusky, Ohio and New York, ca. 1900. This set of thin chalk contains 25 different colors, all of which are fragments. The set is housed within a blue paperboard box. Laid in are two sheets containing Italian ms. writing on them.

    Paper Weaving for Little Folks

    One boxed paper weaving set entitled Paper Weaving for Little Folks, manufactured by the Sam'l Gabriel Sons & Company, New York, ca. 1920. The subtitle reads: "Simple, Instructive, Amusing: To Keep Busy The Little Hands and Little Head." The set includes 24 sheets of colored, prepared paper, one printed sheet showing sample weaving designs, and a metal weaving tool. The weaving paper is in two sets; one set contains widely-spaced (1/2 inch) cuts, and the other set contains more closely-set (1/4 inch) cuts. In some of the sheets the cuts are horizontal, and others, the cuts are vertical. The set is housed in a paperboard box with a color image on the top lid; the illustration is the same as the sample sheet inside the box. The two sets of paper are on either side of a narrow divider box which holds the metal weaving tool. "No. T 227" and "Printed in Germany" are printed in the lower right-hand corner of the box lid. This weaving set has not been used.
