One boxed collection of art reproductions, ca. 135 pieces, ranging in date from approximately 1920-1950. A significant portion of the represented paintings are American. The collection is comprised primarily of reproductions from Perry Pictures, The University Prints and Brown's Famous Pictures series of reproductions. A few postcards and newspaper clippings are also included in the group. The collection is housed within a paperboard box that has "Painting, American, few miscellaneous" written in ms., in pencil, on the lid. This collection was created by Mabel Spofford. Most of the reproductions are part of the Artext Junior series, published by the Art Extension Society. The reproductions cover a wide variety of subjects, painters, and time periods. The sculptures represented range in date from B.C. era to the 20th century. Included are reproductions from The University Prints of Boston and Perry Pictures; others are newspaper clippings and cutouts from magazines or catalogs. Most stand alone, but some images are mounted on paper, with brief textual explanations. The collection is housed within a paperboard box that has "Sculpture" written in ms. on the top lid. One set of art appreciation posters created by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1926. The set of 55 posters is housed within 5 large envelopes; there are 23 different posters, with duplicate copies of 9 of the 23. All of the posters contain black and white reproductions of photographs. Accompanying the posters within the first folder is a large piece of brown wrapping paper on which is written in ms.: "Mabel Spofford; from Boston Museum of Fine Arts, received April 7. 1956 art appreciation posters." The posters vary in size, but all are large. What follows is a listing of the contents of each envelope; the title at the top of the poster has been transcribed. One set of art reproductions of paintings and murals, published by Brown-Robertson Co., Inc., New York, ca. 1924. There are 124 individual reproduction cards within this incomplete set; many are duplicates. All of the cards are color, and include the number of the image (presumably the number within the Brown-Robertson series), the title of the painting, and the artist's name. Most cards name the collection or museum where the original resides, as well as the publisher. Some of the paintings represented in this set include: "Up the Hudson" by Bellows; "Paris Boulevarde" by Renoir; "Infanta Maria Theresa" by Velasquez; "Mona Lisa" by Da Vinci; "The Blue Boy" by Gainsborough; "Jane Seymour" by Holbein, and "Mother of the Artist" by Whistler. One use of these such cards was as a way of introducing students to art of different cultures. This set of art reproductions belonged to Mabel Spofford. Title supplied by cataloger.

This addenda contains museum publications, exhibition catalogs, and scholars correspondence regarding art education materials. Also includes listings from rare book dealers and art and art education-related clippings. There are research materials related to American artists and their childhood education, approximately thirty-six files relate to female artists and approximately sixty relate to male artists.
