    One instructional book, copyright 1947, entitled Finger-Painting and How I Do It, by Ruth Faison Shaw, 47 pp., published by Art for All, Inc., New York. The book includes a short history on Shaw's finger-painting methods, basic techniques, and several black and white illustrations of Ms. Shaw and her work. Illustrated instructions and directions are given for creating images of landscapes, animals, floral pictures, and designs. On the inside of the back cover is a listing of "Art Books for All", which provides titles of books for a variety of subjects.

    One original painting, untitled, unsiged and undated. It is a small, color painting of a shepherd and his dog, painted in a cubist style, on blue grid paper. A black grid is printed on the paper, and the artist has filled in the squares of the grid with paint to create an image. "35-50" and "13,570" are written in ms. in the upper right-hand corner of the paper. Title supplied by cataloger.

    One painting book entitled The Hiawatha Painting Book, published by the Prang Company, 1913. The front cover features a Native American standing in profile before a setting sun. Twelve painted images depict scenes and illustrate the story of Hiawatha. On the back cover of the book are "helpful suggestions on the use of water color paints"; these note that "important latent talents might be discovered" if a child had access to watercolors and describe how a child might mix colors to produce the desired effect on the images printed within the book. Each page is perforated, allowing for easy removal. On the first blank pages Christmas tags and a calendar have been copied in watercolor. A short religious poem and the name "Herman W. Lane, Hampton, N.H." have been written in ms., in pencil.

    One painting book entitled Betty's Painting Book, published by Stecher Lith. Co., Rochester, New York, 1917. This book is composed of 12 unnumbered pages of chromolithograph and outline illustrations, the latter meant for painting. The front cover is a vivid chromolithograph of a seated girl, painting in watercolor. The words "Instructive, Entertaining" are printed at the top of the cover, one word in each corner. "No. 38" is printed in the lower right-hand corner, and the cover illustration is signed "Maynard Evans Price". The back cover is the same image, in reverse. The title of the book is repeated at the top of the inside front cover; beneath it is a 6-stanza rhyme which provides instructions for using the book. On the inside of the back cover is the last outline image for coloring. Each page contains a child or pair of children from different countries; some pages contain just an outline image, others contain both a chromolithograph image and an outline image. Each is accompanied by a brief rhyme; for example: "This English mite is shy tho bright, And always kind to pets you'll find." None of the images have been colored.

    One painting book entitled Home Painting Gallery, by F.I. Wetherbee, published by M.A. Donohue & Co., Chicago, copyright 1908. This painting book is comprised of chromolithograph images, black and white images for coloring, and blank pages for drawing. Descriptive and instructional text accompanies each image. The front cover is a chromolithograph collage of images which include a lace-covered table, a horse, a seated woman, and a boy writing in a chair. The back cover is blank. The images and exercises within this book range from very simple (drawing straight lines) to more complex coloring and shading. Many of the lithograph images have been colored in. "21-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the first page. "Annie McInley" is written in ms., in pencil, opposite the title page.
