Description: One set of six wooden forms, untitled, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1880. The set is comprised of a rectangular cube (?), a sphere, a square cube, a ring, an open triangle, and a cone. Each of the forms has either a wooden peg or a peg hole; presumably these forms were fit into a base or each other. All of the forms are painted white. The largest item is the rectangle; it is 8 inches (20.3 cm.) in height and 3 7/8 inches (9.8 cm.) in width; the smallest form is the sphere, which is approximately 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm.) in diameter. The set is comprised of a round cylinder, a triangular prism, a cone, a solid circle, an open square, and equilateral cross (looks like a "plus" sign [+]). Each of these forms is painted white, and each has either a small wooden peg or a hole for a peg; presumably they were fit into a base or each other. The top portion of the cone is removable. The two largest items, the round cylinder and the triangular prism, are 8 inches (20.3 cm.) in height; the cylinder is 4 inches (10.2 cm.) in diameter. This set may accompany the set in Box 79. Set of six small, geometric wood models

One set of six small, geometric wood models. The 6 models are three-dimensional forms, three of which are labeled. They include: "Hexagonal Prism," "Hemisphere," and "Triangular Prism." The other models are a cylinder, a cube, and a pyramid. The cube has been scribed so that it appears to have been made from eight smaller cubes. The top portion of the pyramid can be removed. All the models are small--for example, the triangular prism is 2 7/8" W x 7/8" H (7.5cm x 2.1cm). Title supplied by cataloger.

One boxed dye set entitled Waldcraft Peg Printing Set, manufactured by the Waldcraft Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, ca. 1920. The set is comprised of three dye tins and 6 wooden pegs. The set is housed in a paperboard box; the lid is illustrated with an image of two children using a dye set.

Boxed painting set, circa 1915

One boxed painting set, ca. 1915. This set is contained within a light wooden box and is comprised of a wooden tray which holds (via red elastic bands) 10 small cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain mixing dishes, two paintbrushes, a 5-inch wooden ruler, and two wooden sticks. Tucked into the top lid and below a cardstock divider in the bottom half are 8 sheets containing original artwork. An additional sheet with sample images for copying is included and tucked into the top lid. The top lid is attached to the box with a red cloth ribbon and decorated with a chromolithograph image, in the shape of an artist's palette, of a winter scene. A small metal lock is affixed to both halves of the box. No manufacturer is listed; no date is given. Title supplied by cataloger.

New Forms and Solids for Object Teaching

One boxed set of wooden drawing models entitled New Forms and Solids for Object Teaching, manufactured by J.W. Schermerhorn & Co., New York, ca. 1870. The set is comprised of 44 forms, including a six-inch ruler, housed within a wooden box. The top lid of the box is removable, and there is a paper label mounted to its underside. The subtitle reads "Containing sixty-four pieces- there being forty-eight plane forms, fifteen solids, and a six-inch rule, among which are several new forms and solids, not included in any other set." Below the title is a numbered inventory of the forms. At the bottom of the label is an advertisement for J.W. Schermerhorn & Co.'s illustrated catalog of school material. Each of the forms is stamped with a number, which corresponds to the list.
