Crayonex

Description: Two boxed sets of colored crayons entitled Crayonex, manufactured by the American Crayon Co., Sandusky, Ohio and New York. Set 8 is Crayonex No. 323 (24 colors); Set 9 is Crayonex No. 326 (32 colors). Each set is housed within a black paperboard box with cutouts so the crayons can be partially seen. The company logo is printed on the box in white, with the phrase: "Old Faithful Tuned Palet Color Products."

One boxed set of chalk entitled American The 'Old Faithful' Crayons 1044, manufactured by the American Crayon Co., Sandusky, Ohio and New York, ca. 1900. This set of thin chalk contains 25 different colors, all of which are fragments. The set is housed within a blue paperboard box. Laid in are two sheets containing Italian ms. writing on them.

Five sets of boxed colored crayons manufactured by the Prang Company, New York, Chicago, and Dallas. All are housed in brown and white paperboard boxes. Set 5: Prang Pastellex, No. 7 (8 wax crayons) Set 6: Prang Crayonex, No. 4 (16 wax crayons) Set 7: Prang Crayonex, No. 3 (8 wax crayons) Set 8: The Prang Art Education Crayons, Set No. 2 (8 wax crayons) Set 9: Prang Art Education Crayons, No. 2 (8 wax crayons) "M.S." is written in ms., in pencil, on Set No. 7.

"Crayonexing": The Crafts and Classroom Medium

One pamphlet (a single sheet, folded in half and then into thirds) entitled "Crayonexing": The Crafts and Classroom Medium, published by American Crayon Company, Sandusky, Ohio, 1933. Printed in blue and black, the pamphlet is illustrated and provides ideas and suggestions for using Crayonex crayons, including: "'Crayonex' on Paper" (pages 1-3); "'Crayonex' on Fabric" (pages 4-6); and "'Crayonex' on Wood" (pages 7-9). The last 2 pages contain illustrated advertisements for multiple sizes and variations of "Crayonex" crayons. The additional offices and locations of The American Crayon Company are also listed at the bottom of p. 10 (same as those as listed on Box 1, Envelope 8).

Munsell Crayons

Visual Materials

Three boxed sets of color crayons entitled Munsell Crayons manufactured by Wadsworth, Howland & Co., Boston, Massachusetts. Set 2 does not have a number on the box, but is labeled "12 colors: five middle colors and five intermediates, with gray and black." Set 3 is labeled as No. 2 Box, containing "five middle colors with gray and black and the maxima of red, yellow and blue." Set 4 is labeled as No. 3 Box, containing "22 colors: five principal hues and five intermediate hues at middle value and middle chroma, five principal hues and five intermediate hues at maximum chroma with middle gray and black." Set 4 is wrapped in sealed plastic. Each paperboard box bears a black and white paper label with the title, contents and manufacture information. Only Set 4 (No. 3 Box) bears the name of the "Munsell Color Co., New York"; but all three sets bear the title Munsell Crayons.
