    The sheet shows a cutaway starboard profile and five decks of the vessel; the deck plans show passenger accommodations, along with the dining saloon, social hall, card room and other amenities. "P.M.S.S. Peking. General Arrangement"--title at the top of the drawing. "Scale 1/16" = 1 Foot"--scale given. "Case No. 361S Sheet No. 7159S"--lower right corner, stamped on original; numbers, in ms.; stamp and the case number are the similar to the one found on ephKMSP 006, indicating the origin of the drawing is Union Iron Works Co., San Francisco. "E2"--in lower right corner of the image. Unknown as to when the copy was made. "City of Peking"--on verso, in ms., in pencil. The City of Peking, built in 1874, was the first iron-hulled, propeller-driven steamer built for the Pacific Mail Steamship Company; she was chartered in 1898 by US Government as a troopship for Spanish-American War and sailed as part of group led by USS Charleston; laid up at San Francisco in 1908, she was broken up in 1910. Focus of item: City of Peking.

    The broadside from Pacific Mail Steamship Company is in Chinese and provides information on the schedule between San Francisco - Hong Kong and Hong Kong - San Francisco; at the top of the broadside is a Chinese calendar; next to, and below, the calendar are advertisements for various companies; below the advertisements is the schedule for the vessels and connecting trains in San Francisco; the names of eight PMSSCO vessels have been translated into Chinese, including the Peru and the Peking. "10/74 ca. 1880 MKS 95"--top right corner, in ms., in pencil. "1898 RyRxo 200-"--on mat, lower right corner, in ms., in pencil.
