Description
Bound in black leather. The title "The Mariposa and Tahiti," is embossed in the center of cover in gold lettering. The number "66" is affixed to the top of spine with glue. Images are primarily of people and activities on the SS Mariposa, on which Jack and Charmian London sailed from San Francisco to Tahiti in February 1908. Also includes photos of people and scenic landscapes on Tahiti.

Provenance
The nucleus of the collection was purchased by Henry Huntington from Charmian London in 1925. Additional groups of material were acquired by both gift and purchase from Mrs. London and later from literary executors Irving Shepard and I. Milo Shepard over many years. Further material has been acquired from other sources; the provenance of these items is noted on the individual folders.

The number "59" is affixed to the top of spine with glue. Images are primarily commercial souvenir photographs and postcards of Tahitians. Also some photos likely taken by a news service, of storm damage from the cyclone that took place in French Polynesia in 1906.

Images of are Jack and Charmian London with their Japanese servants, Nakata and Yamamoto, as crew on the yacht, Roamer on a trip down the Sacramento River and back.

Images are panoramas and snapshots taken by Jack London during a three week tour of France, Germany, Italy, and Holland taken after completing his research for The People of the Abyss in London. Second half of album contains additional photos taken while in London, a several that are variations that did not appear in The People of the Abyss.
