A three-quarters length seated studio portrait of Union Second Lieutenant William H. Lyman of the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment, turned very slightly to the left. Lyman is resting his right arm on a side table, and his left hand in his lap. He has bushy muttonchops, but is otherwise clean-shaven. "B.F. Evans, No. 14 Main Street, Norfolk, Va." is stamped in black on the verso. There is a green three cent stamp with a portrait of George Washington attached to the verso upside down.

Patterson has a wide goatee that reaches the bottom of his collar, is resting his right forearm on a cloth-draped side-table, and it holding his hat in his lap in his left hand. There is a curtain in the background on the right. "From the Larkin Gallery, S.E. cor. 8th & Arch Sts. ; Philadelphia." printed in black on verso.

A three-quarters length seated studio portrait of Union Brevet Brigadier General Joseph Barr Kiddoo (1840-1880) of the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment, turned slightly to the right. Kiddoo is seated in a heavy wooden chair with his hat resting on his right leg. Kiddoo has a neatly trimmed mustache, and his hair is brushed straight back. The bugle on his cap indicates that he is an infantry officer, the braid on his coat sleeves indicate he is an officer, and the eagles on his shoulders seem to indicate that he was a colonel at the time this photograph was taken. "O.H. Willard's Galleries, 1206 Chestnut St. ; No. 4594 Phila." is stamped in tan on the verso. "4594" has been written in pencil. There is a blue and white two cent stamp with a portrait of George Washington on the verso, across which "Jun. 7 1865" has been stamped.
