Monument honoring the 57th Pennsylvania Infantry, 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 3rd Corps
- Description
- Image of the monument to the 57th Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteers. The monument is obelisk in shape, however the top is draped in a carved American flag. Beneath the draped flag is the diamond symbol of the Union 3rd Army Carps and a bronze plaque depicting the coat of arms of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Written on the front: 57th Penn'a. / Veteran Vol's. / 1st Brig. 1st Div. / 3rd Corps. / The Regiment occupied / this position, exposed to a / heavy artillery fire on the / afternoon of July 2, for two / hours, when it advanced 170 / feet and engaged the enemy. On the side of the monument are the statistics for that day. There is a split rail fence behind the monument. At the bottom of the photograph is a number in white: 1084. The photograph has been affixed to a card with the photographer's signature and "Gettysburg, Pa." printed in gold lettering at the bottom.
