    Engraving. Face of the dying president was modeled after the Mathew Brady profile photo taken Feb. 9, 1864 & later adapted for the copper penny. Depicts Lincoln on his deathbed, surrounded by his cabinet and generals. A young man (Robert Lincoln?) covers his face in grief, Mary Lincoln is on her knees at the bedside weeping. A later photographic print of this image became widely popular.

    Image of a memorial print for United States president Abraham Lincoln; Lincoln ascends into heaven assisted by Father Time and an angel (or "Immortality") from a crypt; three women at left (Faith, Hope, and Charity) can be seen grieving, one holds her hand out, another with two children in her arms, and a third is slumped forward on her arms weeping; beneath Lincoln is a bald eagle, Union shield on which is written "E pluribus unum" and the goddess Columbia (or Liberty) bowing her head in sorrow, staff with Phrygian cap in hand; Lincoln's discarded armor and sword lie on the ground near a Native American Indian with his hatchet and arrows sitting with head resting on his knees; on the tomb is written the words "A. Lincoln, Died April 15th 1865."

    First Lincoln death bed print by Currier & Ives, copyrighted on April 26, 1865. Depicts "little Tad" Lincoln weeping at his mother's knee beside the President's bedside. Tad was never present at the deathbed. This first print shows Gen. Henry W. Halleck (with handkerchief) at the bedside in contrast to the later version in which he is replaced by Vice President Andrew Johnson. See also pri675 (25).

    A memorial print depicting a monument to Abraham Lincoln which contains a bust portrait of Lincoln and the inscription: "To Abraham Lincoln the best beloved of the nation". Columbia, wearing a plumed helmet, her right hand resting on a sword, covers her eyes with black bunting and leans on the monument. At the feet of Columbia is a scroll labeled "Emancipation Act" and broken shackles. Also at the base of the monument is a slain dragon. Three owls sit perched at the top of the monument beneath an urn draped with the American flag, while an African American man stands behind the monument, back turned to the viewer, covering his face with his hands. Further in the background is a bloody battleground. In the sky, above all, is an angel holding a palm frond.
