The builders of Big Creek worked hard and ate hard. This view of the dining hall at Camp #1 gives an intriguing glimpse into the harshness of their environment, in which a hearty meal was one of their few pleasures.

Camp 63 was established at the site of the upper end of the Florence Lake Tunnel, near the future site of Florence Dam. Although the dam was only built during the short summer seasons, work on the tunnel went on year around.
