On Oct. 15, 1924, the 4 p.m. shift at Camp 60 established three records for hard rock tunneling. This hard-working crew drilled 30 feet in one shift, 174 feet in one (six-day) week, and amassed 692 feet for one entire month. These records stood until 1986 when they were surpassed by workers at Edison's Balsam Meadow Project. This photo shows Edison officials, including VP George C. Ward (5th from left) at the tunnel portal at Camp 60, reviewing the crew's progress.
