On Oct. 15, 1924, the 4 p.m. shift at Camp 60 established three records for hard rock tunneling. This hard-working crew drilled 30 feet in one shift, 174 feet in one (six-day) week, and amassed 692 feet for one entire month. These records stood until 1986 when they were surpassed by workers at Edison's Balsam Meadow Project. This photo shows Edison officials, including VP George C. On March 28, 1985, the first of the two massive girders for the overhead crane in Balsam Meadow's underground powerhouse was raised into position. The completion of this crane was a major milestone in the Balsam Meadow Project, for would be used to install the power stations heavy components.

Still later plans added more powerhouses on the South Fork of the San Joaquin, but none were built before the depression ended work. Today, the Balsam Meadows Plant is near the site of old Powerhouse #5. Pg. 103.
