Upper portion of Arch 53 is covered with Barrett Waterworks enamel. The lower portion is linseed oil treatment over gunite with reflective coating of aluminum.

The second dark partion is the start of a raw linseed oil application over the remainder of the arch. The enamel was applied during November and December 1941.
