An album with 179 cartes-de-visites portraits -- the majority by Brady's National Photographic Portrait Gallery -- of American politicians, most of whom were Representatives of the 38th United States Congress. The portraits, arranged loosely in alphabetical order, include Secretary of State William H. Seward; Clerk of the House Edward McPherson; Secretary of the Treasury William P. Fessenden; Secretary of the Interior John Palmer Usher; Treasurer of the United States Francis E. Spinner (illustrated portrait) and his wife Caroline Spinner. Among the Representatives are James A. Garfield; James E. English; Elihu B. Washburne; Speaker of the House Schuyler Colfax; Senator William B. Allison; Sidney Perham; James G. Blaine; John A.J. Creswell; George S. Boutwell; William Windom; Joseph W. McClurg; Fernando Wood; Reuben E. Fenton; Robert C. Schenck; Samuel S. Cox; Samuel J. Randall; and Thaddeus Stevens. Other images include a portrait of George Washington (illustrated portrait), two unidentified soldiers, an unidentified older man, and an unidentified woman.
