Diaries of Elias H. Blackburn [microform] : 1849-1862 1900-1908

Microfilm of the diaries of Elias H. Blackburn dated 1849-1862 and 1900-1908. The first diary, dated 1849-1857, opens while Blackburn was living in Provo and recalls his daily activities there as bishop. The second volume, dated 1857-1859, contains similar content. The third, fourth, and fifth volumes cover Blackburn's British mission from 1859-1862, as well as his return voyage to New York and traveling back to Utah. The diaries then skip to 1900, when Blackburn was serving as bishop in Loa, Utah. The remaining diaries, dated 1901-1908, cover his life in Loa including giving out patriarchal blessings, attending meetings and conferences, and administering to the sick in the course of his work as a healer. The volumes dated 1849-1902 are on the first reel of microfilm, while those dated 1903-1908 are on the second reel.

Diary of Lorenzo Dow Young [microform] : 1886-1888

Microfilm of a diary kept by Lorenzo Dow Smith primarily from 1886-1888. The opening pages include a description of the Kirtland Temple and assorted diary entries from 1881 and 1885. Most of Young's diary entries focus on his poor health, the weather, attending Temple services, and visiting friends and family in Salt Lake City. He specifically mentions Franklin Richards, Eliza Roxcy Snow, and Feramorz Little, in addition to his many meetings with his brothers, sons, and nephews. He also mentions events surrounding the 40th anniversary of the first pioneer party to Utah, includes a list of donations made to help Franklin W. Young research Young family genealogy, and records the deaths of his wife Hannah and son Brigham (1860-1887). At the end of the volume is a short family record and brief autobiography by Young, recorded in 1887.

Microfilm of the diaries of Azariah Smith, covering the years from 1846-1912. The first volume opens with some brief autobiographical information on his family's life in Nauvoo and persecutions against the Mormons in Missouri. The journal begins in 1846 and covers Smith's time with the Mormon Battalion, his arrival in Salt Lake City in 1848, and a daily record of his life in Salt Lake, the Sanpete Valley, Ephraim, Provo, and primarily Manti through 1887 (page 224 includes a sketch of Smith's homestead). Following the diary are some loose notes and diary pages, a marriage certificate for Smith and Sevilla Mitchell (1903), some genealogical notes, and a list of names of women sealed to Smith. The second diary volume covers Smith's life in Manti from 1888-1912.

Microfilm of two diaries kept by Heber Bennion between 1888 and 1897. The first volume, identified as volume 4, is dated 1888-1889 and covers Bennion's mission to eastern states, including Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. The second volume begins following Bennion's return home to Provo in 1889, and traces his travels and daily activities in Utah through 1897.

Microfilm of eighteen diary volumes kept by Oliver B. Huntington between 1843 and 1899. The first reel contains volumes 1-11. The first volume is a partial autobiography that includes a history of Huntington's early life and detailed diary entries on his mission to New York in 1843. The second volume is entitled "Compilations of short sketches and journals, commenced December 10, 1845," and includes a more detailed autobiography and diary entries with references to persecutions of Mormons in Missouri, life in Kirtland and Nauvoo, Huntington's 1843 mission, and starting on his mission to England in 1846. Volumes 3-8 cover Huntington's English mission from 1846-1847, and volume 9 was kept while he was living in Cambria, New York, in 1847-1848. Volume 10 traces Huntington's overland travels to Utah in 1848. Volume 11 was kept while Huntington was traveling overland to Nauvoo in 1849, living in New York from 1850-1852, traveling back to Utah in 1852, traveling in Nevada in 1854, teaching school in Utah, and serving on an Indian mission in 1855. Reel two contains volumes 12-18. Volume twelve was kept while Huntington traveled to Fort Bridger in 1856 and to Carson Valley in 1857. The remaining volumes 13-18 were kept while Huntington was living in Utah, primarily at Springville, from 1858-1899.
