Microfilm of assorted documents assembled by James Bleak as historian of the Southern Utah Mission. The first volume, dated 1872-1873, contains notes on meetings held in the St. George Tabernacle, notices of member deaths, theological and church policy notes, references to the development of Santa Clara, and references to Brigham Young, Edward Bunker, and Charles Pulsipher, among others. The second volume is a letterbook of the Rio Virgen Manufacturing Co., dated 1870-1875. The majority of the letters are signed by agent Joseph Birch from Washington, Utah, and relate to business operations and orders for supplies. The reel also contains minutes from meetings of the Executive Committee of St. George Stake, Zion (1874) and a statement on Indian Troubles at Colorado Ferry in 1875. Various documents also relate to the United Order at Orderville, including Articles of Association, a schedule of property appraisals, a ledger of financial statements for 1879, lists of those who joined or left the Order in 1875-1876, names of the boards of directors, and a history of Orderville with assorted records and correspondence dated 1904. The reel also contains documents related to the Iron Military District, including a list of officers in the 2nd Battalion (1864-1870) and a Master Roll of the Volunteer Cavalry Battalion (1866).

Microfilm of a record book kept by the Church Historian's Office tracing the early history of Mormon settlement in Utah, also referred to as history of Brigham Young (it may have been kept in Young's name). The volume opens with a section entitled "Early Records of Utah," which covers 1847-1851 and begins with Orson Pratt and Esratus Snow's arrival in Salt Lake City. Subsequent sections are entitled "Incidents in Utah History" (1852-1854) and Utah Historical Incidents (1855-1867). Topics covered include a history of the Mormon Church, history of Mormon settlement in Utah, establishment of political and religious councils, experiences of Church leaders, interactions with local Indians, and colonization missions.

Microfilm of a thesis entitled "The General Trends and Characteristics of Utah Pioneer Dress from 1847-1875," written by Fairfax Proudfit Walkup for her M.A. from the University of Utah in 1947. Based on research from the Utah Pioneer Costume and Manners Research Project, the paper set out to "discover in what particulars Utah pioneer dress followed the prevailing general lines and characteristics of current fashions and why it did so". The study focused on women's dress, including "whole costumes ... to items of women's underwear- chemises ... corsets, drawers ... nightgowns, petticoats, and stockings; and to certain items of children's clothing." Includes illustrations and bibliography.

Microfilm of Arlington Russell Mortensen's doctoral thesis from the University of California, Los Angeles, entitled "The Deseret News and Utah, 1850-1867," written in 1949. The preface to the paper notes that "in addition to being a history of the birth and early years of a western newspaper, this study proposes to examine significant events and conditions in pioneer Utah as reflected in the pages of its oldest newspaper." The paper is divided into six sections: Genesis and Early Problems, News Gathering and Later Editors, Federal Relations 1850-1856, The News and the Utah War, Federal Relations 1859-1867, the Breaking of Isolation, and Zion Grows. Includes bibliography.

Microfilm of the Southern Mission Memo Book kept at St. George from 1871-1872. The volume recalls meetings, conferences, and events (including lists of marriages) in St. George, including those related to the St. George Temple. The microfilm also contains the Articles of Association of the St. George Temple, with signatures; a brief history of the erection of the St. George Temple by E.L. Parry; a copy of a letter to Brigham Young (1871); specifications for building lower on the St. George Temple by architect W.H. Folsorn, with illustration; a list of names of pilgrims on the Mayflower; a chart of ordinances in the Four Temples (St. George, Logan, Manti, and Salt Lake) from commencement to 1898; and a list of "persons in the sealing room" at the dedication of the St. George Temple (1877).

Microfilm of a collection of typed anecdotes about early Mormon pioneers in Utah and Arizona, primarily written by Sullivan Calvin Richardson. The text opens with a general story of Mormons crossing the plains to Utah and early descriptions of settlements and the landscape. It also notes difficult working condition of laborers on the canal from the Rio Virgin, the building of settlements in Dixie, the construction of Call's Landing, and the giving up of homes on the Muddy River after some were found to be across the Nevada state line (where taxes were too high). The account includes quotes from settlers such as Charley Curtis, William Halladay, George A. Smith, Orville Allen, Lorenzo Watson, and Ammon M. Tenney. The microfilm also includes two poems identified as "The Transformation of the Pioneers," consisting of "Someone's Opinion of Arizona" by Charles O. Brown and "Answer to Some-one's Opinion of Arizona" by S.C. Richardson; a sketch of early Arizona by 'Lige Hancock; sketches of 1870s Arizona pioneers Peter O. Peterson, Andrew Anderson, Andrew Woods, O.C. Oveson, M.H. Peterson, and Andrew Locie Rogers by S.C. Richardson; the text of the "Arizona Song" by "some of the Salt Lake Boys;" and a sketch of Arizona pioneers by Joseph H. Richards.
