Cf. ISTC. Chancery folio, with paper measuring 27.6 x 20.2 cm. Text in one column, measuring approximately 18.4 x 11.5 cm. Includes 122 woodcut illustrations and a woodcut initial and border on leaf a2r. Gerard Leeu's device B on leaf m6r. Signatures: pi⁶ 2pi⁴ a-l⁸ m⁶ (pi1, a1 blank). Imperfect: blank leaf pi1 lacking. This edition, without synonyms, is the first known Italian edition of the anonymous Herbarius. Cf. BM 15th cent. Often wrongly attributed to Arnaldus de Villanova. Title page includes portraits of Avicenna and Arnaldus de Villanova. Includes 150 woodcut illustrations of plants. Chancery quarto, with paper measuring 19.8 x 14.1 cm; 33 lines; area of text: 14.4 x 8.9 cm. With woodcut initials; woodcut border on leaf pi2; initial spaces with guide-letters from leaf u2 until the end; paragraph marks and headlines; without catchwords. "On the recto of the last leaf is the register; and a device wherein (as well as in many other portions of the work) the name of Blastus occurs in the Greek character."--British Library. Printed in red and black. Signatures (in Greek characters): A-L⁸ M¹⁰ N⁸ X⁶ (A1 blank). Initial and border of each new section of text have additional red, green and gold ink flourishes. Woodcut image of Galen in center of top border on leaf A2r hand-colored. Binding: Greek-style bookbinding, probably sewn in the genuine way, i.e. with thread only (unsupported structure); spine is smooth and has a round shape, and is covered with overall textile lining outside of boards. The endbands are in the Greek style, extending onto the boards and sewn into them. Beech boards, with grooves running over corners, with full size reddish brown tanned goatskin cover, tooled in blind all over (frames) with small tools and fillets. Spine tooled in blind with fillets.
