Panoramic view of Besshi copper mine and the mountain in which it was located; information card accompanying material dates the illustrations to some time in the 18th c., though image # 13 of the scroll is thought to be a later addition, sometime from the 1890s; epilogue includes a poem by Hosui -- English translation included in card.

Full page illustrations of plants/grains; Latin names given in Roman alphabet, Japanese names provided in both Katakana and Kanji; placards indicating name(s) of each grain/plant appears to be much later addition (attached directly to pages with adhesive); otherwise, no written script -- only illustrations; inserted tag suggests that the two volumes may have been intended to be part of a larger work.

Handwritten and illustrated book in Japanese on smallpox. The 29 double pages are mounted to an accordion-style book with stiff pages, and contain 27 hand-colored illustrations, many of which show the disease in three-dimension. The Kanbun text is handwritten. The book is covered in satin brocade with a paper title slip. Housed in a silk folding sleeve, also with paper title slip.
