The Kawai family, with Toichiro Kawai (born Japan 1860 - died United States 1943), wearing a suit , and Hama Ishiwatari (born Japan 1873 - died United States 1956), wearing a black dress and a pearl necklace, sitting on a bench in front of a house. The two older people are surrounded by six young men and a young woman, presumably their children. Mr. Kawai worked for Huntington and moved the Japanese house from the Marsh Japanese garden. He also was hired to build the bridge, Torii gates, and bell tower. On verso: Mr. Goto's old views.

Chiyozo Goto

Chiyozo Goto (born Japan 1870 - died Japan ?) stands next to an automobile, wearing a dark three-piece suit and a hat, and smoking a cigarette. After working for the Marsh Japanese garden in Pasadena, Mr. Goto and his family came to the Huntington with the Japanese house after Henry E. Huntington purchased it in 1911. The first gardener for the Japanese garden, he and his family lived in a smaller house behind the Japanese house. On verso: Mr. Goto's old views.
