Chiyozo Goto

Description: Chiyozo Goto (born Japan 1870 - died Japan ?) stands next to an automobile, wearing a dark three-piece suit and a hat, and smoking a cigarette. After working for the Marsh Japanese garden in Pasadena, Mr. Goto and his family came to the Huntington with the Japanese house after Henry E. Huntington purchased it in 1911. The first gardener for the Japanese garden, he and his family lived in a smaller house behind the Japanese house. On verso: Mr. Goto's old views.

Toichiro Kawai and Hama Ishiwatari, circa 1935

Toichiro Kawai (born Japan 1860 - died United States 1943), wearing a suit and standing, and Hama Ishiwatari (born Japan 1873 - died United States 1956), wearing a black dress and a pearl necklace and sitting. Mr. Kawai worked for Huntington and moved the Japanese house from the Marsh Japanese tea garden in Pasadena. He also was hired to build the bridge, Torii gates, and bell tower.
