The painting that is the focus of their photography is Thomas Gainsborough's Jonathan Buttall: the blue boy (1770). Photograph appeared in Los Angeles Times article of November 6, 1938. Another version of this is no. 545 Pictures Archives, box 3, folder 5. MS note on verso reads "Photograph of the equipment used for making color separation plates for Life Magazine."
