Description: Alternate title from cover. Nicely colored map of Southern California in 1861 showing claims which probably yielded little silver. Gift if Mr. & Mrs. Francis M. Wheat (Carl Wheat's son) October 1975. See notes on verso. Submap: Map of the Coso Silver Mines. Prime meridian: GM. Relief: hachures. Graphic Scale: Miles. Projection: Polyconic. Printing Process: Lithography. Verso Text: MS note: H.R.W (Henry Raap Wagner) says June 11, 1939 that this is a very interesting work. He does not recall having seen it before. Carl Wheat tells me June 2 1942 that this map is probably the first made naming Death Valley as such. Lee Perry (?) notes in his G--? Ra--? #31+ 1861. Farley 1861.
