Kashnor dates as 1666, but Shirley identifies this as the second state of this map and gives appeared in information, dating to 1680. Dedication to Charles II. Kashnor notes, "Shows California as an island, and the imaginary Strait of Anian. This is one of the decorative type, richly colored." Shirley notes this map originates with that of Arnold Colom, c.1655, which supplied the surround scenes. This map was modified by de Wit and used by Doncker in his Zee Atlas (does NOT appear in the Doncker atlas owned by the Huntington, RB 70778). Kashnor dates as 1665, Shirley as 1676. Kashnor notes, "Very rare. The cartographer follows the map of Captain John Smith, published in 1612. The next after the above map was again issued by Smith in his Virginia Discovered, 1625." Kashnor dates as 1619, but he seems to have confused this with Jodocus Hondius Jr.'s map of the same name. According to Burden this is State 1, and dates to 1630 (Burden, map 193; Van der Krogt, map 9410:1).
