Manuscript map, one of a group of three depicting Newfoundland. Appears to be a copy, made 1800 or later, of an earlier map. Shows the contemporary fort located to the north of the town, a proposed, much enlarged fort on the hills behind the town, the town and St. John's Harbour with gun batteries. Colored.

Detailed manuscript chart of the St. Lawrence River from Québec to the western end of Anticosti Island. Drawn by Charles Rivez. "The Explanation" states that the map was assembled from various sources, notably: a chart published in Boston in 1732; Maps and surveys done by Mr. Bellin and others, approximately 1755; Captured maps (dated 1737) from the Alcide, taken in June 1755 by Admiral Boscawen. The inset map is titled "Part of the River St. Lawrence" depicts the head of the St. Lawrence at Québec, with the shipping and coast lines around the Île d'Orléans shown in detail. Scale for the inset is given in bar graph as 3/4 inch to 1 English league.
