Dora, on the left, is wearing a black top with exposed shoulders, a light colored skirt with black trim, a sheer, gauzy shawl with black trim, a large crucifix necklace, and several rings. Her hair is pulled up on either side of her head, with tight curls hanging down. Sue, on the right, is wearing a dress with vertical stripes and exposed shoulders. Her hair is pulled back, and decorated with wide ribbons. They are holding each other's right hands, with Dora resting her left hand on Sue's shoulder, and Sue holding a small book(?) in her lap with her left hand.

Dodge is clean-shaven, holding his sword across his lap, resting on his right hand, and holding his gloves on his thigh in his left hand. "J E. McClees, artist, 910 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia" is stamped in black on the verso.

A three-quarters length seated studio portrait of Union First Lieutenant Emery (sometimes spelled Emory) Fisher of the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment, with his body turned slightly to the left. Fisher is resting his right forearm on a cloth-draped side table and his left hand on his left thigh. He has a neatly trimmed mustache and a wide goatee that reaches the bottom of his collar. "Geo. Stotler's Old Portrait Gallery, Johnstown, Pa." is stamped in black on the verso.
