    A panoramic view of an oil refinery in Signal Hill or Long Beach. There are several low, circular structures left of center, and to the right small rectangular buildings. Several automobiles are parked on the far right near what looks like a garage. Railroad tracks on the left end before they reach the circular structures, and there is a small building under construction next to the tracks. Most of the land is undeveloped fields, and besides one oil rig, or derrick, on the right, beyond the water tower, there are no other signs of the oil industry. The street just right of center is Ocean, with a large open park area and an Elks' lodge to its left and Pekin Cafe and De-Nae Cafeteria to its right. The street on the left, Chestnut, has numerous houses and low apartment buildings on both sides, and is lined with parked cars. The Pike is along the beach on the right, with a roller coaster, rides, and shops, and beyond that is the pier. Writing in white in bottom left corner reads "Pierce ; Phto".

    A very wide, slightly elevated panoramic view of the oil field of Signal Hill, facing north and east. There are hundreds of oil rigs, or derricks, across the landscape. Among the oil rigs there are streets of houses, as well as numerous vacant lots. There are railroad tracks on the far right side of the image, and in the center, where the last seven tanker cars of a train are visible. Beyond the railroad tracks on the right there is a neighborhood of closely spaced houses without any oil rigs.
