Description: A panoramic group photograph of the closing of the U.S. Fleet Mission at San Pedro, Los Angeles. Five men in Catholic clerical garb are seated in the center, in front of about 120 men in uniform, mostly sailors, a few marines. There are also a handful of civilians among the group. They are posed in front of the Mason Hotel and the Del Mar Hotel and Cafe. Writing in white at bottom of image reads "Closing of Fleet Mission. A panoramic view of Terminal Island and the back bay from the terminal. Terminal Island is part of the cities of Long Beach and San Pedro, Los Angeles. There are numerous ships along the pier in the center of the image, some barges, some with smoke stacks, and a couple tall ships with four masts. The area to the left of the pier is filled with cargo, and there is a low building with large piles of lumber around it. The exact location of this photograph was not specified. The land on the far side of the back bay is hilly, with little development away from the waterfront. Writing in white in lower left corner reads "Pierce ; 8014".
