The bombardment of the city of Vicksburg : on the ever memorable 28th of June 1862

Item is a black-and-white Confederate States of America lithograph depicting the Union Navy's bombardment of the Confederate-controlled city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The foreground includes a fleet of seven warships flying American flags while firing at the town depicted in the background. One of the ships illustrated is the USS Brooklyn shown engulfed in flames with crew jumping overboard and retreating by rowboat. Text from left to right below the image lists the seven ships as "Monongahela; Hartford; Winona; Iroquois; Wissahicon; and Brooklyn." The lower half of the print includes the title and text that reads, "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year of 1863, by H.C. Clarke, in the Clerk's Office of the C.S. District of the western D. of Mississippi." Signed by lithographer, "B. Duncan & Co. Lith: Columbia. S.C." on the lower right.
