The majority of the collection is correspondence (both originals and copies) regarding the society, their membership, and their activities. It is arranged alphabetically by author and then addressee. Participants include several prominent engineers and scientists including Bern Dibner, Alfred Castelnau, Karl K. Darrow, Louis Domenach, Harold S. Geneen, David Landau, L. Pearce Williams, and Christian V. Pellier. Much of the collection is written in French. This material is noted on the folders.

Manuscripts
A collection of professional, personal, and family papers of General Frank D. Baldwin. The collection includes Baldwin's correspondence, military papers, maps, notebooks, diaries, photographs, scrapbooks, and ephemera. The correspondence includes both letters by Baldwin and addressed to him from 1869 to 1920, and deals mostly with his promotions, friends, and the men who served under his command. The military papers include Baldwin's military records, orders, reports, and communications, which cover his post-Civil War career, recommendations for promotions, and papers relating to his Medals of Honor. Also included is correspondence from 1914 to 1915 relating to a motion picture about the last battles and surrender of Native Americans to Gen. Nelson A. Miles; an incomplete autobiography that starts with General Baldwin's Civil War service and ends in 1879; a group of facsimiles of letters by John Brown; and a program of the memorial service for Owen Brown. The papers also include an addenda which contains the correspondence between Frank D. Baldwin and his wife Alice Blackwood Baldwin, his daughter Juanita Baldwin Williams-Foote, and other members of the Baldwin family. Also included is Baldwin's professional and personal correspondence, military papers, official correspondence, telegrams, maps, pictures, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, pocket diaries, and appointment books from 1860 to 1923.

The collection contains 69 items. There are three manuscripts, including an essay about horticulturist Theodore Payne and a poem read before the Illinois Association of Los Angeles, California. The 40 items in the correspondence section are arranged by author. Most of the correspondence is composed of replies to Ernest Braunton's inquiries regarding various horticultural statistic and facts. Other letters, including those from Walter Raymond, are in regard to the operation and dissolution of the Southern California Horticultural Society. The 26 items in the ephemera section are arranged alphabetically by type. The majority of the ephemera are records and documents of the Southern California Horticultural Society. There is also a pamphlet on Point Lomos, California. Subjects in the collection include: history of agriculture in California; Horticulturalists of California; and history of horticulture in California.

The contents include bills (legislative records), biographies, briefs, correspondence, divorce records, genealogical tables, memorandums, newspaper clippings, notes, petitions, photos, proceedings, reports, speeches, subject files, and writings. The subject files include the Uniform Air Crash Legislation Committee, Warsaw Convention, Rank v. Krug, Alaska Airlines Flight 1866, Pan Am Flight 806, Turkish Airlines Flight 981, and Zaibatsu.

The Correspondence, Manuscripts, and Ephemera Series contains Irving Hill's personal and professional papers, including correspondence, dockets, court instructions and orders, newspaper clippings, photos, and speeches. The vast majority of the professional papers originated from Hill's tenure as a U.S. District Court judge. This series is arranged alphabetically by genre.

The collection consists mainly of letters and questionnaires written between 1904-1908 on the topic of mid-19th-century Los Angeles. Most of the questionnaires, composed by Mary A. Forman, include a correspondent's answers. The documents address Los Angeles history through a wide array of topics, including California state and local government, crime, medicine, architecture, education, land allotment, churches, agriculture, Indians, the Mexican War, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. Significant persons represented or discussed in the collection include George W. Hazard, Andrew Jackson King, Tomás A. Sánchez, Washington Bartlett, J. M. Guinn, L. A. Ingersoll, Juan Caballeria, William Heath Davis, Oscar Macy, John C. Frémont, Stephen C. Foster, Robert F. Stockton, Stephen Watts Kearny, Jonathan D. Stevenson, Thomas Foster, George Hansen (Hanson), Eliza Poor Donner Houghton, William R. Rowland, J. Kuhrts, George Lehman, Laura E. King, and Mary E. Johnston.
