The autobiography covers Mood's ancestry and family history; life in Eagle Valley; his childhood in Deseret; his move to Arizona and life in the Gila Valley; a bout with amnesia; his trip to Mexico and work on the John W. Young Railroad; his dealings with the "influence of profane associates;" his mission trip to Samoa; his activities in Utah, including those surrounding his family, Church, and as school superintendent; presiding over the Samoan mission and his second mission trip from 1908-1910; the reestablishment of the Tonga mission; his time in the state legislature; his meeting with Theodore Roosevelt and doing the "Hopi Snake Dance;" and his work in Arizona real estate. Includes a table of contents.

One scrapbook containing approximately 140 brochures, leaflets, advertising books, etc., published by the Houghton-Mifflin Co., which Daniel Bianchi described in a December 20, 1948, letter to the Huntington Library as "Houghton Mifflin Company advertisements done when Mr. Updike was in their employ."

A photograph album of 69 snapshots chronicling William Hertrich's travels to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935-1936 in San Diego, California. Photographs of Alaska show the town of Dawson, McKinley National Park, glaciers, and two views of native Alaskan villages. Photographs in Hawaii show scenery around Honolulu, especially details of trees, plants and gardens, which are identified by name in captions. Photographs of Mexico show Cuernavaca, Mazatlán, and a pyramid at Teotihuacan. Hertrich does not appear in any photographs, but there is one photograph of his wife Margarete Hertrich with a woman identified only as Jean.
