  Microfilm of the diary and autobiography of George Lake, beginning with diary entries of his mission trip to England from October 1870 to August 1871. Lake appears to have been living at Workington in Cumberland, although he frequently traveled to Newcastle and surrounding areas. The mission entries focus on Lake's attendance of Church conferences and his interactions with local Mormons, including notes on births, marriages, and deaths. The remainder of the volume is a mixture of autobiography and diary entries, and recalls Lake's move to Oxford in Round Valley, Utah, following his return from England in 1871; his flight to avoid polygamy charges in 1874; his being placed in charge of the northern division of Arizona missionaries in 1876, including a list of names of fellow missionaries; and his involvement in creating the United Order at Yavapai, Arizona, in 1877. The volume includes the text of the "last address by Gen. Joseph Smith the Prophet to the Nauvoo Legion in June 1844," followed by a brief summary of Lake's life in 1879. The final pages, in another hand, include a family record with genealogy up through about 1938 and the texts of patriarchal blessings on the Lake family in 1913.

  Autobiography of William Henry Solomon [microform] : 1895

  Microfilm of the autobiography of William Henry Solomon, written in 1895. The account begins with Solomon's birth in England and his school days, including receiving academic merits and prizes. Solomon gives a brief family genealogy and notes being the son of a shoemaker (his mother sold the shoes in mining towns). He then writes of his conversion to Mormonism, his marriage and career in carpentry and shoemaking, and of sailing to New York in 1861. He also recalls traveling across the plains to Utah, being called to settle Arizona in 1873, and of his various travels to and from Utah and Arizona. Solomon also writes of his life in Taylor, Arizona, and Kanab, Utah, including notes on the births and baptisms of his children.

  Autobiography of Asahel Woodruff Burk [microform]: after 1947

  Microfilm of A.W. Burk's autobiography, covering events through approximately 1947. The account opens with some family history and notes on Burk's childhood in Arizona, and briefly covers his move to Utah, educational endeavors, teaching positions, his assignment to the 1942-1943 Northern California Mission, and his sons' enlistment in the military during World War II. Much of the autobiography focuses on home events such as family illnesses, church activities, and agricultural work. Portions of the manuscript are in lightly colored ink that is partially illegible.

  Diaries and autobiography of Anthony W. Ivins [microform] : 1875-1899

  Microfilm of diaries and an autobiography kept by Anthony Ivins between 1875 and 1899. The first diary volume, dated 1875-1882, focuses on Ivins's travels throughout Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. The second and third diaries, dated 1882-1883 and 1883-1884, describe Ivins's mission work in Mexico. The fourth (1896) and fifth (1897) diaries were also kept during a later trip to Mexico. The fifth diary is in a notebook imprinted with "U.S. Indian Service" and has the handwritten notation "Oaxaca Land Adjustment." The sixth volume contains Ivins's autobiography, which is a mix of prose and diary entries through 1897. The seventh and final volume is another diary kept in Mexico from 1897-1899.

  Autobiography of James W. LeSueur [microform]: 1929

  Microfilm of James W. LeSueur's autobiography, completed in 1929. LeSueur includes anecdotes about his childhood, including witnessing the shooting death of Nathan Tenney (which he mistakenly dates to 1884 instead of 1882) and a trip to Fort Bridger, Wyoming, with his father. He includes some genealogy before recounting his mission to Leeds from 1898-1900 and his visit to the family's ancestral home on the Isle of Guernsey. Much of the volume relates to his business activities, including his work at the St. Johns Co-op and his work in stonecutting and land dealing in Mesa, with detailed accounts of his business accounts and savings. He also writes of his work on the Salt Lake Temple and of a situation in which he was accused of "dealing unfairly" with a widow in a land case, although he was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing. Portions of the autobiography are partially illegible.

  Diary and autobiography of John Clark Dowdle [microform] : approximately 1845-1894

  Microfilm of an autobiography and diary kept by John Clark Dowdle and identified as Nampa, Idaho. The autobiography begins in approximately 1845, and in a mix of reminiscences and diary entries describes Dowdle's family background, traveling overland in 1852, an 1864 trip to California, his mission to aid emigrants traveling overland from Missouri in 1866, and his daily activities in Utah, including school supervision in and around Logan and Willard, through 1894.
