    5 items: LAT memo, 3/30/1987, regarding "Upcoming feature...'Notes of a counterrevolutionary' (in LAT Mag)" - memo notes that writer "Arturo Cruz is available to discuss his upcoming (LATMag) article on your program," aimed at radio/tv stations ; multi-page "Media questions and answers: Los Angeles Times Magazine" ; 2-pp. article copy, Adweek, 5/13/1986, "Can downsizing fatten Sunday magazines?" ; 6-pp. article copy, Columbia Journalism Review, 7-8/1986, "Sunday magazines: do they deserve to survive?" ; LAT memo, 3/20/1987, :LAT Magazine, preview of "Upcoming features - "A Latter Day tale of greed, forgery and deceit," and "The California Power Move."

    Hynes, William

    Approx. 25 items: several pieces of correspondence and information sheets (on onionskin paper) containing "Confidential" material with a confusing array of claims related to Hynes, that is was a communist, an anti-communist, a loyal American, a subversive, while also serving on the Los Angeles Police Department ; LAT clips of news stories on his activities of the 1930s and 1940s, including the allegation, in Ken (mag), 6/22/1939, that "Hynes, acting Captain of the Los Angeles Police, was supplying confidential information to Italian agents..." Included is LAT obit , "W.F. Hynes, noted foe of Reds, dies" (age 55), 5/18/1952. Also a copy of a letter from Philip Connelly of Los Angeles Industrial Union Council to Mayor Fletcher Bowron on the subject of Hynes' alleged contacts with the Axis Powers, and 3-pp. dossier for Hynes headed "Confidential," no address given and signed simply "J."

Attached to most of them are comments by Nick Williams and/or Bassett. Also included are some clippings from the editorial pages of LAT. William Durant letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.
