Subjects include: correspondence with journalists in the region in preparation for the upcoming trip; copy of long report from The Sunday Telegraph(12/4/1966), titled "Inside Egypt's Spy Network," noting that "war is perilously close in the Middle East"; Williams' itinerary for the Feb. 11-March 11 trip: copy of "Iranian Port of Entry Regulations"; visa requirements for Kuwait; Williams' letters (not for publication) from the region; James Bassett (who accompanied W.) wrote a 3 pp. report for Among Ourselves; "Notes" on Lebanon, Dubai, Kuwait, Israel, etc.; letters of appreciation to various political leaders, monarchs, journalists and other who met with or aided the Times contingent; etc.

    European Trip

    Approx. 55 items. Subjects include: memos discussing and planning the upcoming trip. Nick Williams and James Bassett spent between Sept. 28 and Oct. 20 in Western Europe, Otis Chandler joined them from Oct. 2 until Oct. 11. Also itineraries, programs, and letters of appreciation to/from the Times party and to/from European political leaders, etc. Also in the file are hard copies of Nick Williams articles with European datelines published during the trip.

Subjects include: letter to George Nathanson of LAT Mexico Bureau about upcoming Latin American trip of Williams, Otis Chandler and James Bassett; several pieces of correspondence related to plans and goals for the trip; itineraries and guest lists; "Brief Sketches of Persons to be Interviewed"; copies of letters of appreciation sent following the trip; newspaper clippings about the trip; etc. / The trip was originally planned for Feb. 1965, eventually kicked off in late May that year. The trip extended from May 23 until June 16.s / Also in the file is 3 pages of biographical material on General Robert W. Porter, Jr.
