Approximately 80 items. A number of pieces of correspondence show that Bassett continued his book reviewing for Broadcast Music Inc. Several items show that persons unacquainted, or only slightly acquainted with Bassett sought advice or job referrals from him. There are copies of letters addressed to Sen. Thomas Kuchel and Vice Pres. Nixon. Correspondence also shows that B. kept in touch with Navy friends and associates. On the occasion of a 1957 promotion, B. received congratulatory letters from public relations and business firms, including AT&SF Railroad and Ice Capades Intl., and media outlets including United Press Associations and the San Diego Union, and one Superior Court Judge, Stanley Mosk, and Caspar Weinberger (Calif. Assembly), etc. The remainder are various private and business communications. William P. Rogers letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.

Correspondence with Scott Meredith Literary Agency, Simon Schuster (Peter Schwed), Playboy (Ted Rogers), New American Library, Reader's Digest, Los Angeles Times Syndicate, a critical note from Scott Meredith about a book review (Mirror or Times) ran on a Evan Hunter (a.k.a. Ed McBain) novel, etc.

Approximately 25 items. Folder contains telegrams, correspondence [including letters to/from Walter Annenberg, Otis Chandler, Melvin Belli, Alan Cranston, Thomas E. Dewey, J. Edgar Hoover, H.R. Haldeman, Hubert Humphrey, Estes Kefauver, [actor] George Kennedy, Vance Packard, William P. Rogers, Pierre Salinger, Harold Stassen, and Jesse Unruh. The subject matter or the letters varies, several are congratulatory notes on the release of a film based on Bassett's novel, In Harm's Way in 1965.

Contains one page biographical sheet on Bassett, letters, memos, press releases, a letter informing B. that he had been elected to Kappa Tau Alpha [the national fraternity honoring scholarship in journalism], various other correspondence, both personal and business in nature. Also in the folder are an article from Newsweek titled, "Candidate Nixon's Insiders," and a copy of a policy for Bassett from Prudential Insurance.
