Description

Approx. 45 items. Subjects include: a long series of letters from, early on, Kirby Harris, and later letters, typed and handwritten, mostly from Mrs. (Lorraine) Harris. It seems Mrs. Harris was trying to get chummy with (Otis Chandler and later) Williams. While her letters become increasingly personal, Williams remained professional. Earlier the topics were from the news, later she told of her activities. She eventually sent a photo of herself to him. [?]

Also a copy of a letter from Williams to Mrs. B.J. Carroll of Newport Beach. Carroll had also obviously taken strong exception to one or more Conrad cartoons, and Williams was defending him as "a social critic."

Memos and reports. 17 pp. report on organized labor by Ramsdell; 7 pp. "underlying facts and assumptions" & excerpts of the Kaiser Committee report on the company and its employees; operation of Editorial Pages; items in letters column that include personal attacks; rapid transit debate; from 1962, a multi-page report to Williams by Ramsdell providing his impressions and opinions of a dozen or more syndicated op-ed columnists LAT used at the time, including Joseph Alsop, William F. Buckley, Jr., Roscoe Drummond, Barry Goldwater, Walter Lippman, Drew Pearson and Abigail Van Buren (the last two receiving very low marks); etc.
