Description: Twelve items. Nine pieces of correspondence between Otis Chandler and Richard Nixon. Also included is a five page copy of the endorsement of Richard Nixon for President, and a memo from an unknown author and a photocopy of one of the letters. The memo is attached to a copy of an article entitled "Hazards of Presidential Isolation," which discusses Nixon. The last item is actually a letter address to "Buff" [Dorothy Chandler] from Richard Nixon, thanking her for selecting his secretary, Rose Mary Woods, as one of the Women of the Year award recipients.

"Seven items, all are photocopies regarding the 1962 California Governor Election between Richard Nixon and Pat Brown, which consist of the following: A two page complaint from a reader, S. M. Forderer, with a note attached from FM [Freddie Miller] to Otis Chandler stating "of the now 82 letters I've read condemning us for the outcome of the election, this one alone has a new slant which might interest you." Also attached is a statement released by Otis Chandler on November 7, 1962. Correspondence between Charles S. Jones. which includes a statement released by Mr. Jones, which also includes a copy of a Los Angeles Times Article entitled "Shell Clamis Nixon Wages Gutter Attack," which was published on Sunday May 27, 1962."

There is also one clip, dated 3/28/1929, "Whittier picks best orators...Richard Nixon wins first in elimination," which opens: "In the local finals of the National Oratorical Contest at Whittier Union High School Richard Nixon, 16 years of age, a junior, won first place in a field of eighteen."

Approx. 75 items: LAT news stories and other material on ex-Vice President Richard Nixon in the 1963 - 1964 time frame. Also in this folder are several LAT editorials and columns on Nixon from 1974 [?] including the editorial published 8/7/1974, "The President should resign," in which LAT wrote: "We ourselves especially feel the betrayal of Mr. Nixon. This newspaper has supported him...through a political career (and) more often cheered than criticized. As recently as 1972 we supported his bid for reelection....(We) must now conclude that he is at the end of the political road." Also tear sheets of article, Historical Society of Southern California (Quarterly), date unknown, " 'Rabbits and radicals' - Richard Nixon's 1946 campaign against Jerry Voorhis" ; LAT news stories about Nixon as well as copies of the columns he wrote for the newspaper during 1961, commenting on national and international affairs in his capacity as ex-Vice President of the United States. Also included are a smaller number of in-house memos related to columnist Nixon.
