LAT news stories - headlines and dates include: "Actress defends migrants before Congressional hearing," 9/25/1940 ; Mrs. Douglas' view on Reds challenged," 8/30/1950 ; "Nixon gave her pink tint, Mrs. Douglas says," 9/21/1956 ; "Old Nixon foe (Douglas) still works against him," 10/19/1970. Also in the file is the original of a 10/25/1950 letter from Henry Rich of David S. Hillman Advertising, who had Douglas as a client, to the Advertising Dept. of LAT, indicating his appreciation for the "wonderful cooperation...in placing advertising, in spite of the fact that, editorially, LAT opposed her election.

Approx. 10 items. Letters from Evelle Younger to Williams, Otis Chandler and William Thomas. Younger states that he believes the LAT endorsement of him was a major factor in his election. Younger's earliest letter in this file (1964) thanks LAT for its "generous editorial support...during the primary campaign," (when he was first elected) and one of the last (1971) to William Thomas of LAT is addressed to "Bill," and closes with "Warm personal regards, Ev."

1 item: LAT editorial copy, 11/7/1961, "Honor to a true Conservative," reading in part, "The honored conservative is Thomas M. Storke, 84, editor-publisher of the Santa Barbara News-Press. He (has) received the 1961 Lauterbach Award of the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University for his vigorous insistence that 'public issues be discussed with decency and sanity'." LAT described how he stood up against influential Santa Barbara residents who supported the John Birch Society.
