    Approx. 60 items: letters from readers opposing LAT's position on the 1969 L.A. Mayoral race (i.e. - LAT endorsed Tom Bradley over Sam Yorty) and either protesting the position or, in some cases, canceling their Times subscription. Attached to most of these letters is one of two standard LAT responses, one for those merely protesting the LAT position and another for those canceling their subscription.

Letters, press clippings, Yorty newsletters, etc. Subjects include: discussion of a new charter for L.A.; 1970 "Yorty for Governor" press release; issues related to Indochina war; LAT gives very strong editorial endorsement to Tom Bradley for mayor, stating that Yorty's 8-yr. record as mayor was one of "bickering and weak leadership, racial divisiveness and clowning absenteeism on world-wide junkets" and more; etc.

    Two pieces of correspondence between Otis Chandler and Harrison Chandler. Items include a response letter from Otis Chandler to Harrison Chandler's note. Harrison Chandler's note had five photocopies of Sam Yorty articles from other newspapers and Sam Yorty's calling card attached.

    Yorty, Sam - 1966

Subjects include: Otis Chandler publicly remarking that Yorty had failed to show leadership in race relations, after which Yorty challenged C. to a debate on who was doing the most to improve race relations in L.A.; Yorty, LAT and Vietnam issues; repeated allegations by Yorty of LAT "distortions"; complete transcript of Yorty press conference of 6/9/1966; text of Yorty speech to AP Managing Editors Assn., 11/18/1966; etc.
